I am a FREAK

HTML Editor - Full Version

...a productivity freak to be exact. But yes, a freak!

It all started when I was 8 years old.
Here’s what happened…

I was sitting on the olive green shag carpet of my grandfather’s family room floor.
My grandfather was sitting behind me in his favorite chair crinkling the newspaper as he read it.
I don’t remember what I was playing with on the floor, but I do remember what came on television.
It was an episode of ... CONTINUE TO POST

How to Attack Deliberate Practice: 4 steps

Last week I shared an example of deliberate practice through the story of Kobe Bryant and his insane work ethic. Now before you can attack this idea of deliberate practice, let me help further define it for you so you know how.

Deliberate practice is a highly structured and highly engaged activity with the specific goal of improving performance. Deliberate practice is different from work, play and simple repetition of a task. It requires effort and it is not necessarily inherently enjoyable. When you engage in deliberate practice, improving your performance over time is your goal and motivation.

That’s not to say that deliberate practice can’t be designed to be fun, but it isn’t inherently enjoyable on its own. If you want to gain skills rapidly or approach expert-level status at something, you must understand the importance of deliberate practice and learn how to incorporate it into your daily process.

Now let me give you the steps to attacking deliberate practice... CONTINUE TO POST

This is my gift. A gift that was given to me that I am now thrilled to give to you--every day:

“Holy Productivity Batman!”

Last week I discussed how you could activate your productivity superpowers by turning on your Stress and Pressure response signals. This week, I want to give you further tips on how to put your superpowers into high gear so you can kick major butt when it comes to your arch nemesis Procrastination.

So let me ask you this, where would Batman be without Robin? Maverick without Goose? Sherlock Holmes without Watson? Hey, even Hans Solo without Chewbacca? My point being, we need to find you a sidekick. A productivity butt-kicking one at that!
You will be amazed at how much more time and energy you have in the day when you can delegate your lower priority tasks and hone in your focus on your most vital priorities (MVPs).

If you’ve read The Entrepreneur Roller Coaster, you are familiar with my story about Maggie, and how much of a rockstar she is at what she does. Maggie is the one that keeps everything running smoothly. And today, I want to help you find your “Maggie.”

Here are the best practices I have learned in hiring virtual and local superhero sidekicks to help me stay focused on high-value functions in my unique strength zone... CONTINUE READING

Become a Productivity Superhero Pt2

Last week I discussed the story of Mariana and how multiplied her productivity output through her newly gained uber-mom super powers. Whether or not you are also a uber-mom, I want to be sure you are fully battle ready to conquer the productivity disease that is Parkinson’s Law.

Hey, we ALL suffer from Parkinson’s Law. It’s part of the human condition. Without applied pressure we will always drift down the stream of least resistance and ease. To access our greater capacity you have to push it out of yourself. You actually have to purposely apply pressure and stress on yourself to activate your super-human abilities.

The first thing to understand is pressure and stress is your friend and your high-performance ally. This is something low achievers don’t understand... CLICK TO CONTINUE

Become a Productivity Superhero Pt1

Since many of you are also one of the dedicated millions that each month puts the SUCCESS Magazine CD in your car or uploads it to your phone and soaks in the wisdom on these tracks, I wanted to take a moment to tell you about someone very important to you (and me). Mariana.

Yes, Mariana is our audio producer extraordinaire.  She is wizard behind the curtain of all the great audio programs—every interview you hear and nugget you discover, Mariana helped me make it happen. She works with me to build the editorial calendar; we decide on the candidates together, and then she handles all the logistics of arranging the interview, coordinating with our interviewee and usually their staff, the recording producers, transcriptionists, production editors, printing, packaging, promotion and fulfillment, and so much more. Mariana was one of the most organized, efficient and productive people I knew.

said “was” because then, Mariana had her first baby. While I was thrilled for Mariana and the exquisite creature that is baby Rose, in all candor, just between you and me, I was a little worried I wouldn’t have the same Mariana my life depends on, post-Rose’s grand debut.

I was afraid Mariana would be different—let’s face it, no woman becomes a mother and remains unchanged. And I was right. Mariana was different, but not in the way I expected... CONTINUE TO POST

Disconnected Days

I have a problem.
A very serious problem.
It’s destroying my (productive) life.

My problem: I am easily seduced.

It seems I am weak.
Every day I set out to be disciplined.
Every day I promise I will not stray.

But every day somehow the siren’s song of email, texts, phone calls and social alerts always prostrate me.

I submit.
I give in.
And once again the grand intentions of my day are squandered in the vortex of reacting to the calls of other people’s agenda.

But no more.
I am no longer going to rely on my good intentions, my well-laid plans for the day or my will power to stay the course.

When I set out into the wide blue ocean of my day, where the siren lay, I am going to tie myself to my mast AND put wax in my ears.
I don't need to hear their songs at all.

Here is the hard truth… CONTINUE READING

‘Tis the Season for a Knockout

While many people mistakenly excuse lack of productivity during the holiday period, NOW is the time when you can get out in front and gain some serious strides on the competition.

When I was in real estate, most of my colleagues went into hibernation mode in December. Since many people do not buy or sell houses around the holiday season, they rationalized taking it easy—big mistake! I did exactly the opposite, kicked it up a notch, and seized a huge market advantage.

Three Ways to Knockout Your Competition in December:

In only 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week, 260 times a year I can help you level up your success and transform your life:

WOW Work Ethic

I want to ask you a few questions.

Do you take pride in your work?
Do you get up each and every day eager to get to work?
Do you give your all no matter what each and every day?

And the ultimate question, do you think others are WOWed by your work ethic?

Oh, I’m sure you think you work really hard.

You THINK you work long hours, but…. in a 2011 TED Talk Niall Ferguson, professor of business management at Harvard University described how the western culture (that’s you and your peeps) are losing its work ethic, particularly in comparison to most eastern cultures.  He cited a study that showed the number of hours worked in eastern countries was almost 1000 hours greater than those in western countries.

Ya, not a little bit more… ONE THOUSAND HOURS more!
Add to that… the research showed that the West has been progressively DROPPING in number of hours worked… since the 1950s.

This demonstrates that not only has our PRODUCTIVITY waned but that definitely our WORK ETHIC has as well… which usually go hand in hand anyway, right?

But what we need to be asking is why…
Why has our work ethic dropped off? ...CLICK FOR MORE

WOW Productivity

Talk to almost anyone today, and they complain about having “no time.”
It is obviously a boast disguised as a complaint when you hear this.

Our most frequent response when we hear someone say how crazy-busy they are: “That’s a good problem to have” or even “Better than the opposite.” And it isn’t ER nurses, doctors or people with three different minimum wage jobs who say they are “crazy-busy.” It is people like you and me who are lamenting our own self-imposed busyness.

Being busy isn’t the problem; it’s what we are so busy with.

Face it, just because you are busy doesn’t mean you are achieving your most important goals. In fact it is probably the exact opposite.
Am I right?

You spend every day running around trying to get things done but when the day ends you stop and look at what you have accomplished and somehow it isn’t as much as you hoped or even thought you did.

Because being busy doesn’t equal being productive.

Being busy doesn’t equal being productive.

So why do we get stuck with mind-numbing busyness instead of productivity? I have talked with countless high-profile CEOs and millionaires, heck even billionaires. Not one of them has complained to me about how busy they are.

The reason?
Because while they are definitely busy they know how to take that busy and transform it into WOW productivity.

They know their limits.
They hone their skills and delegate the rest.

They are focused on getting the right things done, not getting everything done.

They know from experience what they need to do or not do in order to have WOW productivity and continue to build their million- or billion-dollar empires.

And in this week’s post on WOW Productivity, I will be sharing some of the top productivity tips by some of the most productive movers and shakers of our society...CONTINUE READING
